Chapter 13: Troubleshooting
PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS POSSIBLE SOLUTION
A. The HHCPC
doesn't identify the
modem
A1. Your modem
might be OFF or
loosely
connected.
A1. Make sure the modem is turned ON. A
power switch is available on any external
modem. The light on the front panel should
illuminate.
Also ensure that all other applications using
the COM Port are turned off (PalmPilot
Hotsyc and other accessories or terminal
windows).
Check whether the cable connectors are
fitted securely to their respective ports:
The line connector in case of an internal
modem
The line and RS-232 connectors in case
of an external modem.
A2. You may have a
COM\IRQ
conflict.
A2. Check whether you have the correct Com
port and IRQ settings in your software
and/or in the Windows Control Panel. Also
verify that there are no conflicts with other
devices.
B. Failure to com-
municate with the
Amber via the
modem.
B1. You may have a
conflict with the
definitions in the
communication
mode window.
B1. Make sure you selected the Telephone
Modem option in the communication mode
window.
B2. The modem type
is different from
the type displayed
in the OPTIONS
menu / Com-
munications tab.
B2. Check that the correct modem type has been
selected.
B3. Modem is not
properly installed
in operating
system
(Windows).
B3. Make sure that the modem is recognized by
Windows.
If not, click Start Setting Control
Panel. Double click the Modems icon and
follow the instructions on the displayed
Install New Modem window.
